KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has alleged that there arenot enough test kits and medical personnel to do screening for Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).
“To test or not to test? This is the question many are asking these days. The chairman of Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (Datuk Amar) Douglas Uggah (Embas) again calls on everyone who has had close contacts with Covid-19 infected persons to immediately go to hospitals to do tests.
“Most if not all who have had even the slightest contact with anyone suspected of Covid-19 infection will want a Covid-19 test done on him or her immediately.
“But there is simply not enough test kits and medical personnel to do it,” he said in a press statement today.
Chong, who is Stampin MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, noted that the professionals at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) had put up a signage at the SGH.
The signage, according to him, is placed at the SGH to give a clear message that if one does not have symptoms, they should not go to hospitals or clinics to do the Covid-19 test.
Because of this, Chong wondered whose instruction the people should follow.
“Douglas Uggahs or the professionals’ in SGH?” he asked.
“For me, I will take the advice of the professionals in SGH,” said Chong.
For the time being, he said he will stay home and practise social distancing as advised.
“This, according to the professionals and the medical staff, is the best way to help in the fight against Covid-19,” he said.
