KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized numerous explosives, believed used for fish bombing activity, from a pump boat at 0.2 nautical miles at Tanjung Sindian here on Thursday night.
MMEA Sabah director Rear Admiral Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said the raid was made during a routine operation along the area around 8.35pm on October 10.
MMEA personnel spotted a fisherman in a pump boat acting suspiciously and upon nearing the boat, the suspect fled the scene to a nearby island before disappearing in the dark, he said in a statement yesterday.
Inspection on the pump boat found numerous explosives believed used for fish bombing activity, said Kamaruszaman.
MMEA personnel also found assorted fish that were caught using fish bombs, he said, adding that all the seized items were taken to the MMEA headquarters for further action.
