Tan Sri Tony Fernandes
KUCHING: AirAsia Group Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes closed his Facebook account and said he may shut his Twitter page.
“Closed down my Facebook account with 670 k followers. Just thinking about Twitter now. Weather to close or carry on.
“The amount of hate that goes on in social media sometimes outweighs the good. But on Twitter I think the battle for me goes on,” Fernandes tweeted today.
“Facebook could have done more to stop some of this. I myself have been a victim of so many fake bitcoin and other stories. 17 mins of a live stream of killing and hate!!!! Its need to clean up and not just think of financials.
“It (Facebook) is a great platform to communicate. Strong engagement and very useful but New Zealand (massacre) was to much for me to take along with all the other issues,” he tweeted later.
Fernandes was referring to senseless attack which saw 50 worshipers lost their lives and dozens wounded, including several Malaysians in the tragic shootings by extremists at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand last Friday.
Fernandes said his Facebook account had 670,000 followers.
He tweeted yesterday that he is “a big fan” of social media but after the live-streaming of the mass-shooting in New Zealand, he really had to think hard about weather to remain on Facebook.
Fernandes has about 1.29 million followers on Twitter and has tweeted more than 20,300 times since joining the social media platform in 2008.
