KUCHING (Nov 19): Sarawak recorded eight new Covid-19 positive cases today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,053, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced.
Of the eight new cases, one has been classified an Import B case and the rest are local transmissions.
An Import B case is a local infection from other states within the country.
In its daily update statement, SDMC said six of the new cases were reported in Kuching while the remaining two were recorded in Miri.
“Case 1,046 involves a male university student who returned from Kuala Lumpur. The case came back to Sarawak through the Miri Airport on Nov 8 and was ordered to undergo quarantine at the quarantine centre.
“The case shows no symptoms and signs of Covid-19 and has been sent to Miri Hospital for medical attention. Close contact tracing for this case, categorised as Import B, is being carried out,” said SDMC.
SDMC said another new case (Case 1,047) from Miri involved a local woman, who was detected through close contact tracing for Case 987.
Case 1,047 is a sibling to Case 987, and both had close contact with one another when the latter was ordered to undergo home quarantine. The new case is asymptomatic and has no history of travelling overseas or to high-risk infection areas.
Contact tracing for Case 1,047, a local transmission infection, is being conducted.
SDMC said the six new cases reported in Kuching, categorised under the Besi Cluster, were close contacts of previously reported cases.
“All these cases involve locals, who are immediate family members and cousins of Case 1,043 and 1,044. They are asymptomatic.”
Contact tracing for these cases is also being proactively carried out.
