This combination of photos shows (from left) rubbish littering the beach; volunteers help in the clean-up and the beach cleared of visible rubbish.
MIRI: Some 30 Oiltown 4×4 Adventure Club members and their families, as well as several runners from Sabah and Indonesia helped to clear Marina Bay beach of visible trash yesterday.
Club president Mohd Suffri Hamdan said he was glad the club managed to clean up the beach.
It was shocking to see such a deplorable condition on the beach right by the bustling Miri city centre and even shameful that our neighbours marathon runners from Sabah and Indonesia helped Mirians to clean the beach, he said yesterday.
Mirians, especially those who make rivers and seas their dumping grounds, should wake up and stop polluting the environment.
Club secretary Dentonel Misa said his whole family was involved in the clean-up.
My children were excited to do their part cleaning the beach, as they themselves frequently complained about the dirty beach each time we come to Marina Parkcity, which is fronting the beach, he said.
The runners from Sabah and Indonesia will take part in the Miri Marathon today (March 17).
