RMCO: Arrests at nightclubs, pubs increase to 608 Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 14): Pub and nightclub activities still accounted for the bulk of offences with 608 individuals arrested by the police yesterday for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said these offenders were among 763 individuals nabbed for breaching the RMCO yesterday.

Other offences included failure to provide equipment/logs for entry(6), activities which made physical distancing difficult(63), not wearing face masks(22),holding private parties(27), andpremises operating beyond permitted hours(1).

There were also arrests in connection withpremises operating without a licence(1), cock fighting(10), suspected involvement in gambling activities(12), defying Enhanced Movement Control Order(12) and other activities(1), he said in a statement on RMCO developments today.

He said 71 illegal immigrants, three skippers and one smuggler were arrested under Ops Benteng.

Ismail Sabrisaid 10 of the migrants were arrested by the armed forces in Padang Mulud, Bandar Penawar, Johorfor not possessing valid personal identificationdocuments.

“A total of79 roads were conducted under Operasi Bentengyesterday — 57 by police, 10 by the Border Security Agency and 12 by the armed forces, he added.

Ismail Sabrisaid from July 24 until yesterday, 28,508 individuals who returned to the country were placed in73 hotels and eight other premises including Public Training Institutes and private institutions of higher learning throughout the country.

Of this number, 10,359 individuals are undergoing compulsory Covid-19 quarantine, 69 others were sent to hospital for treatment and 18,080 were discharged and allowed to return home.

He said that since March30, the government had carried out9,937 public sanitisation operations in134 zones.

They involved 12,994 premises comprising 2,711 business centres, 5,717 government buildings, 1,599 housing areas including Peoples Housing Programme,2,613 public areas and 354 supermarkets, he added. – Bernama
