ECRL Project To Create 3,000 Jobs For Locals In Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU, March 14- - The East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project will create 3,000 job opportunities in Terengganu, said Menteri Besar-Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.

Aside from creating jobs for locals, TATI University College-in-Kemaman-would be used as the training ground for workers involved in the project, he added.

Ahmad-Razif-was speaking during a media conference here today after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) among Terengganu-state government-linked corporation, Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Bhd-(EPIC), T7 Global Bhd-and-CMC Engineering Sdn-Bhd to collaborate on the Terengganu-parcel of the high-impact rail-project.

EPIC Group Chief Executive Officer,-Noor- Fadzil Mohamed Nor, T7 Global-s-Executive Chairman,-Datuk Seri Nik Norzrul Thani-and-CMC Engineering-s-Chief Executive Officer,-Hazwan Alif Abdul Rahman, signed the MoU.

Also present at the signing ceremony was State Secretary Datuk Wan Nawawi Wan Ismail.

The MoU is to explore business opportunities in the railway project spanning 600-km across three East- Coast states, with-eight stations located in Terengganu-alone.

Ahmad-Razif said the three companies would carry out the infrastructure works-such as building rail line and stations for project owner Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and turnkey contractor-China Communications Construction Sdn Bhd.

“We have also asked that EPIC, as the state government’s representative, to coordinate the provision-of sand and quarries for local contractors so they can participate, thus refuting-the allegations that the project only involves foreign contractors,- he said.

He added that-the project, which is-currently in the land acquisition phase for base camp construction, was expected to be completed-in 2024.
